National Disability Employment Awareness Month featuring men and woman of all races and disabilities at work.
October marks National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM)! First enacted by Congress in 1954, NDEAM highlights the many contributions of people with disabilities in the workforce, as well as the obstacles they still face. 
At SOAR365, our Supported Employment and Workforce Development programs assist local businesses with inclusive hiring and help people with disabilities achieve their employment goals. In our Business Solutions department, we employ more than 90 individuals with disabilities who work on contracts for companies and municipalities across the region.

Meet DeAngelo, Zachary and Tony…at work!  
At SOAR365, we don’t just employ people with disabilities — we also help them get hired at other companies.  
 
Zachary is a SOAR365 employee who works at the Visitor Center at the Defense Logistics Agency. Tony just started his new job at Twisted Taco, thanks to working with his job coach, Leo. And DeAngelo is training at Tech for Troops, a nonprofit that provides refurbished computers to veterans.

A Spectacular Night 
On September 17, nearly 400 people joined together at SOAR365 and PARK365 for the Ladybug Fund Winetasting and Silent Auction. Guests tasted wines, enjoyed tapas-style food and desserts, bid on items in the auction … and, above all, had fun!  
The event raised more than $150,000 toward programming for infants, children and youth with disabilities.

New Hours at PARK365
PARK365 now opens at 11 a.m. every Monday so that our groundskeeping and maintenance crews can safely mow the grass, clean the park and make needed repairs. Please check our website and PARK365’s Facebook page for park updates.
Hours: Monday: 11 a.m. to dusk
Tuesday–Sunday: dawn to dusk

Last week, Greg McQuade’s “Heroes Among Us” segment on WTVR Channel 6 was about DeAngelo Thomas and his job coach, Leonardo Castro! Leo is part of SOAR365’s Supported Employment department and helped DeAngelo secure a training opportunity at Tech for Troops, a local non-profit organization that assembles, refurbishes and recycles computers for veterans. This story is full of heroes—DeAngelo, his father (Jon), Leo, and Tech for Troops Executive Director Mark Casper.
