The Update – June 2022

The Update: June 2022

June 2022
Summer Camp at Camp Baker started with huge cheers and smiles on June 12, and the first few sessions have been action-packed. The warm, sunny days made for lots of pool time and outdoor activities, along with arts and crafts for some indoor downtime. Each week, campers go to Applewhite Farm for horseback riding, as well as Pocahontas State Park for boating. New this year: Healing Sounds on Tuesdays for music therapy.

We have 18 Summer Camp staff members from Mexico, the United Kingdom, Columbia, Jamaica, and the U.S. Our Summer Camp staff includes camp counselors, lead counselors, lifeguards, and activity counselors.

Each week concludes with a SOAR365 Summer Camp tradition: the Talent Show! This is a highlight for campers, families and staff, as everyone jumps in to show off their talents.

SOAR365 Celebrates Pride Month
From employee awareness to social media posts and from our rainbow logo to dressing in rainbow colors to show support, SOAR365 is excited to celebrate Pride Month this June.
At SOAR365, part of being an Employer of Choice and Best in Class means making all our employees feel like they can be their true selves while at work. That’s why we made an important addition to our strategic plan: cultivating a workplace that embraces Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility.

SummerFest Was a Huge Success!
What a perfect night full of smiles and laughter! PARK365 welcomed hundreds of people to celebrate our community and share resources during SummerFest 2022. Thank you to our great group of volunteers and all our partnering organizations for making this year’s SummerFest such a perfect night. Special thanks to Anthem HealthKeepers Plus for their sponsorship and to SOAR365’s Next Generation Council for organizing the event.

Tips From an Expert
Our own Lisa Coates, Director of Children & Youth Services, provided her expertise in the Parental Guidance column of the May/June issue of Richmond Family Magazine. Way to go, Lisa!

And Lisa doesn’t stop there. She also recently spoke at the disAbility Law Center of Virginia on youth disability issues. Next up, the Arc State Convention in August!

If you have a child or youth in your family who is interested in after-school services for the fall, begin the intake process now.
Meet Caleb
When you first meet Caleb, you hardly get a chance to see the first grader … he’s a racing blur of speed. But once you catch up to him, it’s easy to see this little boy has a heart of gold.
Caleb comes flying into SOAR365 (or PARK365) twice a week for speech and occupational therapy visits. Often, one of the hardest parts of receiving a diagnosis is not knowing what to do. “SOAR365 is the answer to ‘Now what?’ and ‘What do I do?’” says Caleb’s mother Valary.

Making a Difference with SOAR365
FOX Richmond is partnering with MR. FIX-IT to launch #YouCanToo. Together, they will spotlight local RVA non-profit organizations making a difference in the community. But they take it a step further than simple promotion … MR. FIX-IT employees volunteer, too! We were delighted to welcome them to SummerFest, and we’re grateful to FOX Richmond for producing and airing this commercial encouraging people to get involved with SOAR365.
