Meet Nehal Asif!

SOAR365 Children & Youth Program Support Volunteer
As a Bonner Scholar, University of Richmond student Nehal Asif is required to engage in 6-8 hours of service each week with the organization of her choice for the duration of her college career. For Nehal, who eventually wants to become a pediatrician, the choice was pretty easy. “My baby cousin was born with Down Syndrome and spending time with her has led to some of the most meaningful experiences in my life. I was delighted for the opportunity to work with SOAR365 and acquire those experiences and skill sets I will need to work with children.”

As a Children and Youth Program Intern, Nehal has multiple opportunities each week to interact with the program participants, get to know them, and support their growth and development. Her internship has allowed her to participate in activities ranging from field trips and seasonal celebrations to literacy and job readiness activities. “I’ve had a wonderful experience. I am really enjoying the opportunities to form connections with the kids and do different activities with them every time I go in. Seeing how the staff interact so easily with the kids has been very impactful and inspiring.”

Children and Youth Program Director Lisa Coates says that “Nehal brings a diverse perspective to C&Y. She has grown into her role as a Bonner Scholar as evident with her initiative, energetic spirit and through the relationships she has built with both staff and participants.”
