Meet Liz Scher!

SOAR365 Adult Program Support Volunteer
For some people, volunteering with SOAR365 is just a no-brainer. Liz Scher is one of those people. As a recently retired Special Education teacher with the Richmond Public School System, Liz continues to be “guided by the idea that all people should have the fullest life possible. SOAR365 endeavors to give people with disabilities the fullest life possible, so it seemed like a good match for me.” After learning more about SOAR365 at orientation in October, she decided to start engaging on a weekly basis with the Adult Day Program. “It seems that adults with disabilities are often overlooked so I wanted put my efforts toward working with them.”

Thanks to Liz’s extensive expertise and familiarity with the general needs of the people we serve, she was able to jump right in and lend our busy staff a hand. Favorite moments so far include helping to create sponge-painted turkeys for Thanksgiving and engaging in an intense but friendly tic-tac-toe match. Best of all? “I like to give the program participants a chance to express themselves with someone who is interested in them and what they have to say. Being there for another person is valuable and satisfying.”
