SOAR365 Adult Program Research Volunteer
Lauren Pelfry, a native of Dallas TX, moved to the Richmond area just as the pandemic was unfolding, so settling in to her new home was a bit of a challenge. Although she found plenty of ways to indulge her passions for hiking and fitness, she wanted to connect to the community in a deeper, more meaningful way. After researching local volunteer opportunities, she found SOAR365 and knew “very quickly” that it was the right fit for her. “Inclusion has always been central to my everyday endeavors and helping an organization that’s so committed to this goal is such a win-win.”

Once Lauren reached out to SOAR365 on October 17, there was no turning back. Within a matter of days, she had attended volunteer orientation, submitted her volunteer application, volunteered for the Ladybug Fund Winetasting and Silent Auction Fundraiser, and scheduled an interview as a program research assistant. “Once you fill out an application the support and opportunities just flow to you!”

As a program research assistant, Lauren has dedicated several hours each week to identifying new opportunities (including classes, field trips, and virtual activities) that promote community integration, skill development, and independence for our adult program participants. Her supervisor, Danny Kenyon, says: “Lauren has been finding some amazing community resources and ideas that will improve the quality of our programs!”

What would she tell others who are considering volunteer service with SOAR365? “You have nothing to lose and everything to gain with this amazing organization! The amount of support and positive interactions I have had in just my short time is astounding. It’s an experience I will always treasure!”
