Each month, SOAR365 collaborates with local independent radio station WRIR to produce and broadcast a radio show and podcast focused on disability.
Titled “Discussing Disability,” the show features interviews with staff and participants of SOAR365, as well as friends in the disability community, with the goal of bringing disability into daily conversations and to introduce underrepresented perspectives.
For our November 2024 episode, we talked with Chris Parthemos, PhD – the Associate Director of Student Accessibility and Educational Opportunity at VCU. Chris is passionate about connecting VCU students with the support they need to embrace their educational destiny. He oversees the Assistive Technology Lab and Dining Accommodations for all SAEO students, in addition to serving as a student case manager. As someone who experiences chronic pain, Chris is uniquely attuned to the experience of students with chronic conditions.
The conversation focused on opportunities for students with disabilities in higher education – what resources are there, is there financial aid, what supports do universities and college provide and much more!
