Summer Camp season is winding down, and we couldn’t have made it happen without the help of our dedicated volunteers! Coming from all over the world, representing different interests and skillsets, our volunteers have truly made this summer unforgettable. So far this summer, 88 volunteers have contributed a total of more than 2,600 hours in support of Camp Baker participants and activities!
Madison Dooley is completing a junior internship at Longwood University. She chose SOAR365 because she was eager for the opportunity to work with participants of all ages and abilities in one camp. Madison leads daily activities for participants by engaging them in nature and photography lessons. “I enjoy being with campers each day, and I really get to know them and what interests them the most,” she says. But Madison’s favorite part of camp is the weekly talent show. “Thursdays are my favorite days because that’s when campers perform at the talent show. When they wave me on stage to perform with them it makes my whole day!”
Brad Williams joins us all the way from Scotland and has made a very positive impact at camp. Brad has more than four years of experience working with individuals with disabilities in a summer camp setting. We are thrilled that he brought his experience to Camp Baker this year! “After talking with Latashia McLeod about Camp Baker and the activities offered here, I knew instantly it was a place I wanted to be,” said Brad. “I made the right choice in choosing to volunteer here!” Luckily for Camp Baker, Brad will remain with SOAR365 through the end of summer camp and will continue to support the team’s efforts. “I have met some incredible campers who are now part of my life forever,” he said. “I’ve learned so much about each individual camper – and myself – while working here.”
