This summer, we welcomed Alex Jensen as a Data Analytics Intern in our Business Solutions department at SOAR365. His internship has allowed him to apply what he’s learning in school to real-world projects, while supporting a team that creates meaningful jobs for people with disabilities and delivers valuable services to the community.
“One of the things I’ve loved most about this internship is getting to bridge the gap between what I’m learning in grad school and the real-world side of data,” Alex said. While his graduate studies in Statistics focus heavily on theory, this internship role has pushed him to see a more practical side including managing databases, coordinating information, and finding ways to turn raw data into something useful. “I’ve especially enjoyed getting into data coordination and database management,” he added. “These aren’t emphasized as much in school, but they’re essential for making data impactful.”
Alex earned his bachelor’s degree in human and child development and is now completing a master’s degree in statistics. “Down the line, I’d love to step into big impact roles that align with my viewpoints and values,” he shared. One future role that excites him is working as a statistical analyst in the juvenile justice system. “I could combine my background in mental health and disability services to do work that makes a real difference,” Alex said. “The database and analytics skills I’m building here at SOAR365 are exactly the kind of experience that will help me get there.”

Business Solutions provides everything from assembly work to janitorial services and landscaping, generating millions of dollars each year while creating employment opportunities. By contributing to the department’s data systems, Alex has helped make this work more effective.
Outside of SOAR365, Alex is equally passionate about music and technology. “Ironically, a lot of audio modeling and the science behind sound design is based in statistics,” Alex said. “So, what I study in school connects closely to this creative side of my life as well. It’s been really enjoyable to find ways to tie all these passions together.”
Alex brings both precision and creativity to everything he does. “We’re incredibly grateful for the time Alex is volunteering in support of SOAR365’s Business Solutions team. Through his internship, Alex will play an important role in helping SOAR365 use data in smarter, more impactful ways. His work on business intelligence reporting will give our team clearer information to run our businesses effectively and support the people we serve,” says Trent McFadden, Assistant VP, AbilityOne Business Line.
Thank you, Alex, for the energy and insight you’ve shared with SOAR365!
