Iffad has grown by leaps and bounds during his time with SOAR365 Supported Employment.

When Iffad first came to SOAR365 Supported Employment in December, he wouldn’t say a word. He would only communicate through his father. And he wouldn’t even make eye contact. Things didn’t look promising.

Luckily, Iffad was paired with Leeanne Jones, one of our knowledgeable and encouraging employment specialists. Her philosophy is to offer participants “any opportunity possible and challenge them to complete tasks they (and others) did not think were possible.”

And she has backed it up, helping Iffad to explore a wide range of workplaces and activities. “Iffad has tried out working at the Perkinson Center for the Arts as a ticket scanner and program distributor, the Tredegar Civil War Museum as a greeter, the Richmond Peace Center as a food server to support their community dinner, Hanover Parks and Recreation as a game show host, and the Science Museum as an exhibit associate,” says Leeanne.

After working with Leeanne, Iffad is a happier, more confident person. “Iffad now openly socializes with others. He calls me to see when he is going out next to try a new job and seems like his life is fulfilled,” says Leeanne. Iffad is also proud to call his dad at the end of the day, to let him know what time he’ll be home and to talk about his accomplishments. 

Once quiet and withdrawn, Iffad is now bright and outgoing. “Iffad has learned new skills, gained tremendous experience, and is more excited about the opportunity to work in his community,” says Leeanne.
